what is the size of solar panel needed to supply electricity for a house?

admin | December 26th, 2008 | solar panel energy

The house to be supplied by solar energy hes appliances like tv, refrigerator, air-condition unit, electric fan, 7 fluorescent light. How will i compute for the right size of solar panel needed.

You normally run the household off batteries and an inverter. Then you size how many batteries you need and the power you are going to use. Then you calculate the minimum amount of sunlight per day and how much energy it has to replace for the usage in the house from the batteries over a day or even two days and that should give you the solar panel capacity. To work out the amount of power you need, you switch on everything and measure the current. Then you can calculate the VA rating by multiplying that to the voltage.

Notable First Year for Prince Albert of Monaco

admin | December 14th, 2008 | solar panel energy

While Prince Albert is preparing to mark the first year of his succession to the Principality of Monaco, a local destination guide http://www.yourmonaco.com suggests that the second smallest country in the world is in safe hands and can look forward to years of progressive economic and social policies that extend well beyond the borders of Monaco.

‘Prince Albert has changed his playboy image’, they say, ’since coming to power he has taken the initiative on environmental issues, for example in April he went to the North Pole to draw attention to his fellow world leaders that the environment should be top of their agenda, and he has made a concerted effort to put the environment on the Monaco map of issues that need addressing’.

The environment seems to be of particular concern to Prince Albert, and with this in mind the 2006 Monaco Yacht Show will be carbon neutral. The organisers will be paying for a variety of green projects in Europe and further afield, including enough wind turbines in New Zealand to generate power for 50,000 homes.

In two further steps earlier this year to increase Monaco’s influence in world affairs and to promote Prince Albert’s concern for the environment, the Monaco government announced that it would calculate GDP for the first time, enabling Monaco to meet the UN’s target of 0.7 per cent for developing countries, and Prince Albert himself founded a new foundation as ‘part of his personal commitment for the protection of the environment and for sustainable development’.

Prince Albert’s father, Prince Rainier who ruled Monaco for fifty years was known as the ‘builder prince’, as Monaco grew out of all recognition while he was in power, transforming the principality from a European backwater to Europe’s top tax haven and home to many of Europe’s top businessmen and sports stars.

Prince Albert has continued his father’s tradition, with plans recently announced for an island to be built off Monte Carlo which will increase the size of the world’s second smallest country. But bidders have been asked to plan the project with the environment in mind, as well as the Monaco Grand Prix. The possibilty exists that the Grand Prix circuit will be changed to encompass the new island – and with it more opportunities for overtaking.

Grand Prix de Monaco

Tradition and modernity have long been features of Monaco, and as well as a first class infrastructure, the Principality can boast one of the world’s top hotels in the Hotel de Paris Monaco.

Along with the banking and finance sectors that help Monaco’s economy to be one of Europe’s most successful, tourism also plays a major part, with many visitors making day trips from neighbouring France and Italy.

‘The Monaco Grand Prix plays a part of course’, comment YourMonaco, ‘but many tourists want to see what it is really like to be in Monte Carlo, the millionaire’s playground. Monaco hotels enjoy high occupation levels despite the day trippers though, as so many business people are in Monaco for two or three days’.

Property prices in Monaco are among the highest in the world, with one bedroom apartments after closing costs starting at around a million Euros.

It’s thought unlikely that the new island to be built off Monaco will reduce prices much overall despite the increase in the number of property units available as Monaco real estate is always in demand.

Tribune properties who specialise in Monaco real estate believe that most new apartments will be sold to investors off plan well in advance of any building work starting.

‘The problem with property in Monaco is not the lack of buyers’, they say, ‘but more the lack of good properties for buyers to choose from. Hopefully the new island will address that. Everyone in Monaco is aware of how important the environment is thanks to Prince Albert’s initiatives in pushing it up the political agenda, and any new developments will be low rise. With the good weather in Monaco expect to see plenty of solar panels on the roofs to make the buildings energy efficient’.

In his first year Prince Albert has successfully made the people of Monaco aware of global warming and taken steps to combat it, and for his second year and beyond he is likely to be campaigning just as hard at home and abroad on the issue he believes in so much.

is there an alternative for solar panels that can collect and convert solar energy into electricity?

admin | December 12th, 2008 | solar panel energy

A solar panel is a device that collects and converts solar energy into electricity or heat which can be used by (for example) nearby buildings. But is there any device that acts like a solar panel?

Besides the silicon type, there are a couple of types:

1. the reflector type of solar power, which uses a mirrored dish to focus sunlight to boil water to drive a generator.
2. using sunlight to heat a thermocouple which drives a current.

Both of these are larger than your typical solar cell and are not really that efficient - yet.

A solar cell is the only thing that converts photonic energy into electricity, although they can be made of silicon and other materials.

Auto Industry’s 10 Best and Worst Cars for Depreciation

admin | December 7th, 2008 | solar panel energy

Cars, unlike parcels of land, do not appreciate in value over time. They normally depreciate. Moreover, vehicle owners have to know the cars that hold value best. Which cars do not easily depreciate? According to the Consumer Reports’ depreciation ratings, import brands lead in car resale value while the domestic models are on the adverse position.

It was found out that those affordably priced cars like the Toyota Prius hybrid, Scion vehicles and Mini Cooper hold their value better than sports and luxury vehicles in the market. The best cars are made by either Japanese or European nameplates. On the other hand, the worst cars with high depreciation are mostly domestic brands, which are commonly used by rental companies and fleets.

The best and worst cars in depreciation are rated by Consumer Reports based on the difference between the MSRP of a 2004 model when new and its present retail value. The average depreciation was approximately 45 percent over the first 3 years. Those cars that belong to the top 10 are above average while those at the bottom are below average. The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) of the cars were rounded to the nearest $500.

The best car depreciating rating was given to Toyota Prius. As a fact, there is an overwhelming demand for this particular car. Toyota parts for Prius were further improved by several upgrades that include extra batteries, stealth mode, chargers and solar panels. A used Prius can be had at approximately $22,000. The top 10 best cars for depreciation are Toyota Prius, Mini Cooper ($17,500 to $25,500), Scion xB ($14,000 to $15,000), BMW M3 ($49,000 to $56,500), Lexus RX ($36,000 to $46,000), BMW 6-Series ($72,000 to $79,000), Lexus GX ($46,500), Acura TSX ($30,000), Scion xA ($13,000 to $13,500), and Honda Civic & Civic Hybrid ($14,500 to $24,500).

The worst car in depreciation is Ford Freestar, which has replaced Ford Windstar. Last year, the sales figure of the car was down by 20 percent. Now it has a depreciation value of $19,500 to $29,500 far below the average. Next to Ford Freestar are Ford Crown Victoria ($24,500 to $27,500), Buick Rainier ($31,500 to $33,500), Lincoln Town Car ($42,000 to $50,500), Dodge Caravan/Grand Caravan ($18,500 to $27,500), Mercury Grand Marquis ($25,000 to $29,500), GMC Envoy ($26,500 to $37,000), Ford Explorer ($26,500-$36,000), Buick Rendezvous ($25,000 to $28,500), and Chrysler Town & Country ($21,500 to $36,000).

How is the progress in solar energy advancing?

admin | December 6th, 2008 | solar panel energy

http://www.greenlivingonline.com/Energy/not-your-parents-solar-panels/

I really like this product and would like to see if it is ready for production.

It’s advancing more rapidly. Now Bush has come out of the woodwork and given more companies incentive to go solar (now that his popularity level is at an all-time low.) I know that Germany produces more solar power than any other country in the world and they receive less annual sunlight than they do in Seattle. Spain is also investing heavily in solar energy. They’re building a large heliostat outside of Madrid. In Australia, the world’s largest solar power plant is just getting underway. The solar tower will be twice the height of The Empire State Building.

Why are solar panels Flat? Wouldn’t a round panel be better suited to their task?

admin | December 2nd, 2008 | solar panel energy

Wouldn’t a solar tube be more suited to provide solar energy than a panel? As I understand it the panels must be pointed at the light source in order to harness energy from the sun, wouldn’t a tube always have a surface pointed towards the sun, thus eliminating the need to constantly rotate the panel?

what you want, is the most surface area, exposed to the most sun, possible.
the way to do that, in the northern hemisphere, is to have a flat panel, tilted south, sort of toward the equator.
but not all the way south.
around here, the energy is calculated over a year, so you want to optimize the generation in the summer, when more energy is available.

it's not a good idea to make an accordion.
the materials to make the solar panels are expensive, so folding them wastes material.

panels don't care much whether electricity strikes them vertically, or at an angle, other than, vertically concentrates the available energy more, and generates more electricity.
